2006 ROTC Recognition Night

Held at the 934th Airlift Wing (Ft. Snelling) Officers Club, Post Road & Hwy 5, St. Paul

The Department's annual ROTC Recognition Night is dedicated to the ROTC units and their members within the state of Minnesota.

The program this year consisted of three features: Introduction of ROTC Units present and a report from those units on their activities; a 4-officer panel discussion  on the topic, "The Odyssey of Your Career"; and the announcement of the 2006 Merit Award recipients.

Reports were given by Army ROTC units from St. Johns University, Collegeville, and from Minnesota State University, Mankato; from the Air Force ROTC unit from St. Thomas University, St. Paul and the Navy ROTC unit at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus.

The panel consisted of four ROA Minnesota members:

This is the second year that Merit Awards have been provided by the Major Dan Anderson Freedom Fund. The selection of the recipients followed the submission of application packages from many outstanding candidates from Minnesota ROTC units. There were four merit awards presented for $500.00 each.

CAPT Larry G. DeVries, CEC USNR (Ret.), President of the Freedom Fund, 2006-07, announced the 2006 Merit Awards:

 
  • Cadet Brian Lovig, Minnesota State University, Mankato, Army ROTC (Army National Guard) (hometown: Mantorville, MN)
 
  • Midshipman Jason Q. McClintic, University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus, Minneapolis Navy ROTC Detachment (attends St. Thomas University, St. Paul) (hometown: Brooklyn Park, MN)
 
  • Cadet Nathan Gavic, University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus, Minneapolis, Air Force ROTC Detachment 415 (hometown: Coon Rapids, MN)
 
  • Cadet Anthony C. Bowman, University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Air Force ROTC Detachment 410 (hometown: Roberts, WI)
